About the Department

The Department of Community Medicine at Katuri Medical College & Hospital (KMCH), Guntur, has been a cornerstone of the institution since its inception, playing a pivotal role in medical education, public health training, and community-oriented service delivery. Over the past 25 years, the department has evolved into a center of academic excellence, administration, and research, actively contributing to the health needs of society and the advancement of public health science.

The department operates a Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) at Prathipadu, 6 km from the campus, and an Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) at Chandramouli Nagar, 20 km away. These centers provide platforms for hands-on training, community-based learning, and healthcare delivery — offering routine immunization, antenatal care, and supervised deliveries, thus giving invaluable real-world exposure for both interns and postgraduate students.

Faculty and students are actively engaged in impactful research, with several ICMR-sponsored projects addressing key public health priorities such as non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and adolescent health. Strong publication output and active student participation highlight the institution’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of physician-scientists and public health leaders.
